Lesson 1: Introduction to Habits

 Level: B1 Adult

Objective: Understand the concept of habits and discuss how they influence daily life.

1. Warm-up

  • Questions for discussion:

    1. What is a habit you do every day without thinking?

    2. Which of your habits are helpful for your health or work?

    3. Have you ever tried to change a habit? What happened?

    4. Do you think habits define a person? Why or why not?

2. Reading

“Habits are the repeated actions that form the foundation of our daily lives. Many habits are automatic, meaning we perform them without conscious thought. For example, brushing your teeth in the morning or locking the door when you leave home. Some habits are beneficial—they improve your health, productivity, or relationships. Others are detrimental—they can harm your body, waste your time, or create stress.

Even small habits, repeated consistently over time, can lead to remarkable results. A tiny change, like taking a five-minute walk each day, can compound into significant improvements in health and mood. Understanding how habits work allows you to intentionally shape your behaviors. Habits are not just actions—they reflect your identity. Every small decision, repeated daily, tells a story about the person you are becoming.”
