THE SATURDAY DISASTER 😱

Sam is sixteen.

He loves Saturdays because he can sleep late, meet his friends and play computer games.

But this Saturday is different.

His grandparents are coming for lunch.

At 9:00, his mum opens his bedroom door.

“Sam, you have to get up.”

“Why?”

“Your grandparents are coming.”

Sam looks at his room.

There are clothes on the floor, books on the bed and empty cups on his desk.

“You must tidy your room before they arrive.”

“But do I have to clean the whole house?”

“No,” says Mum. “You don't have to clean the kitchen. Your dad is doing that.”

Sam gets up.

First, he puts his clothes away.

Then he makes his bed.

At 10:00, his mum calls:

“Sam! You have to take out the rubbish!”

“OK!”

Then his little sister comes into the room.

“Can you help me set the table?”

Sam wants to say no.

But he remembers that everyone has to help.

At lunchtime, Grandma smiles.

“Thank you, Sam. You helped a lot.”

Sam smiles.

“Actually, I didn't hate it.”

His mum looks surprised.

“Maybe you're growing up!”

Sam laughs.

“Don't get too excited.”
